THE WILD ONES
The Wild Ones 1st gig

Local Rockers "The Wild Ones" are a Thin Lizzy tribute band made up of 5 veterans of the local Rock scene, Kevin 'Koke' O'Kane-vocals (Mothra, Terminal Beach, Against The Grain), Ted Lynch- Guitar (Scabbard, After Hours), David 'Dee' Jenkins (Falon, Terminal Beach), Dee playing with Terminal Beach 1992Brian 'McCaffs' McCafferty- Guitar (Straightjacket Memories, Indian Summer, Jeannette Hutton band) & founder member Chris Harte (Scabbard, After Hours, The Look).

Chris decided to put together a Lizzy tribute band for a charity night last August in 'The Strand Bar' after going to see Lizzy tribute nights in Dublin & other towns around the country & once he had made up his mind to do this he had no hesitation in selecting guys he knew were up to the job of performing the music he loves. He had played with Ted before in Scabbard & had seen him jam with Brian so he knew that there was chemistry there between the 2 guitarists which was vital for that unique thin Lizzy sound. Needing a singer who was also a great frontman he opted for Koke safe in the knowledge that he could whip up a crowd (I've seen the video), & let's face it Dee is as solid as a bellyful of cement. These guys love their Rock. So successful was the initial gig that the lads have decided to continue playing on a regular basis around the town which can't be a bad thing.

Philomena & Chris sing backing vocalsA special guest at that 1st gig was Phil Lynott's mother Philomena who had come up from Dublin to show her support. After the gig Chris sat with Philomena until 4.30am listening to her tell stories about Phil & show photo albums that she had brought with her. Since then they have kept in regular contact even so far as to invite Chris & Dee to visit her in her home whilst they were down in Dublin at the last 'Vibe For Phil' in January which is the main Thin Lizzy tribute event. Philomena is fully supportive of the band & intends to come up to the next full tribute night which is already booked for Chris & PhilomenaSaturday October 4th upstairs in The Gweedore on Waterloo St.

If you want to see the band on their own they will be playing in Beckett's on Foyle St. on Friday July 4th but the gig you really want to be at is on May 30th in the Gweedore bar where we will be having the official launch of www.imarocker.com The Wild Ones will be performing a full set of Lizzy classics such as Black Rose, Massacre, Dancing In The Moonlight, Whiskey In The Jar & many more. This will be a night to remember so come out & show your support for a great band & a hopefully great website.

Koke,Dee & ChrisI will leave the last word to Koke (typical chanter) who I asked; Is there still an audience in the town for Rock? His reply was "oh aye, if some of the old crowd got off their arses & away from the TV, the crack would be a whole lot better" Nuff said
