Hailing from the Wicklow mountains Glyder have recently released their
second album 'Playground for life'. The band's guitarist Bat Kinane took
time out from their UK & Ireland tour supporting FISH to answer our
10 questions.
How
are you, where are you?
I am doing well, at the moment I'm in Harrogate in Yorkshire in a friends
house where we are basing ourselves for the UK tour with Fish, We played
in Leeds last night so it was only a 20 mile trip very hand for all the
northern UK gigs.
What's currently happening in Bat Kinane & Glyder's world?
At the moment it's very busy with the tour and more and more gigs are
coming in. Today I've a day off so I'm catching up on lots of other things.
Tomorrow night we play in Lincoln. We have been writing a track called
"Fill your head with rock" for Sweden Rock Magazine.
What has been the best concert by one of your peers you ever attended?
Recently it has to be Whitesnake in the Olympia totally amazing line
up and gig. I like intimate gigs, big gigs don't really excite me that
much, the festival atmosphere is better for the drinking than the music.
What was the first song you ever wrote/performed?
A song called "lawnmower slaughter" with my old band Cursed
Earth. We even brought a lawnmower on stage with us.
Do
you remember the first place/ time you stepped on stage to play? What
happened?
Yes I was 14 and we had no drummer it was in our community centre and
we played "get back" by the Beatles, "whiskey in the jar"
and "wild thing" we called ourselves Cold Sweat, we were shite
so nothing really happened!!
What performer are you in awe of? Why?
Lots of them but at the moment its Fish, I've never seen him before this
tour; he has such a great attitude and stage presence. He is a great performer
And the crowds love him.
What would be the high point & low point of your career?
High point for me was meeting Ronnie James Dio at Gods of Metal in Italy
last year and having a beer with him. He is a very sound bloke and he
probably the best rock vocalist of all time. The low point for me was
a really mediocre review of our first album In Classic Rock Magazine.
It got 6/10 but read like a 4. I was so confident that it would get a
great review there but it didn't. I was so gutted at the time it's hard
to describe. Now I don't care too much. The reviews have been great and
we are finally starting to get recognised for what we do.
What
is you favourite city/town to have a show in & Why?
It's hard to know because some places we have only played once. We did
a show in Switzerland last year on tour with Thunder and we got such a
great reaction.
If you could do something else what would it be?
At this minute a fisherman sound like a good option
What colour is the sky in your world?
Green.
