CELTIC LEGACY'S DAVE MORRISEY

Celtic Legacy have been frantically releasing albums at a rate of 1 every 5 years. The band are currently promoting their new new LP 'Guardians of Eternity' (Reviewed HERE, last album Resurrection reviewed HERE) Guitarist/Songwriter/Founder member Dave Morrissey takes time out to answer Sav's 10 Questions.

How are you, where are you?

Pretty good all things considered, just back from a relaxing holiday so raring to go. Currently sitting at my laptop typing this out, it's located in a small apartment building in Clane, Co. Kildare, Leinster, Ireland, Europe, Planet Earth.

What's currently happening in Dave Morrissey & Celtic Legacy's world?

Well in my case a lot of driving around trying to get work because I'm a freelancer with no steady income. Seems the economy has taken a bit of a downturn so I have to go out prostituting myself, not literally… mind you if things don't improve soon that option might also have to be explored. In the topsy turvy world of Celtic Legacy there's lot of rehearsing being done in preparation for the upcoming album launches. We're having great craic in the rehearsal studios though

What has been the best concert by one of your peers you ever attended?

I can't really single one concert out but I thought Mael Mordha were excellent when I caught them in Cork last year.

What was the first song you ever wrote/performed?

"In The Name Of Freedom"
Written while I was still at school and playing with my first band called 'Jensyn'. We played it at my very first gig at some school event.

Do you remember the first place/ time you stepped on stage to play? What happened?

Yep, that very same concert. St.Benildus secondary school in Dublin. We were 3rd of a bill of 6 bands and I was fairly shitting myself. We were the only metal band on the bill although we were just playing covers. We just about got through the set and went off to see the rest of the gig. The guitarist from the band on after us came on stage with my guitar which was a bit of a shock as it was a very prestigious (not) Eddie Van Halen type strat copy and I was very possessive of it. So I hopped onto the stage and stood right in front of him while he tried to play his first song. He didn't play a second.

What performer are you in awe of? Why?

Ritchie Blackmore. I don't think there's ever been a better guitar player. He can play in any style although his rhythm playing sucks. But his lead notes have an emotion in them that no other guitar player has ever matched. But he's never gotten the acclaim he deserves.

What would be the high point & low point of your career?

I'd like to think we're reaching the high point with the new album. For me personally taking the reigns on this album is my proudest achievement whether as a musician, songwriter, producer or graphic designer. I just hope it does the business for us.

As for the low point, well that would undoubtedly be the latter months of the Resurrection line-up. With all the crap that went on in the band at that time I was seriously asking myself if it was worth all the bullshit. Not an experience I care to repeat.

What is you favourite city/town to have a show in & Why?

Belfast because they love their metal there. The show we played there in 2004 is still etched fondly in the memory.

If you could do something else what would it be?

Command a five-year mission to explore strange new worlds.

What colour is the sky in your world?

A nice shade of Deep Purple
